I am thinking Mick Jagger will be there. Retha and the Stones were fast friends they stayed at her home in Palmer Woods when they would detour to Detroit just to see her.

She got 3 seats in the front row. She good.

I was an usher at Luther Vandross’ funeral at The Riverside Church in New York with a similar ambitious programme. Five hours? As you quoted one of Aretha’s greatest hits: ‘Ain’t No Way’.

Stevie Wonder’s performance at Michael Jackson’s funeral is when I lost it. I’m tearing up again now just watching this video

Why is it not televised on CSPAN?! Hell “Re-re” is one of our heros! A natural born American treasure...she did more for us than anyone on “the Hill” that’s for damned sure! Her legacy will forever be “The Queen!” RIP sistagirl!... (Anybody else notice they had the good sense to put Stevie next to last?) 😂

hahah just take the M1 rail LOL hahahaha another good joke ahaha

I read that he visited her last week, so that’s when we all kind of knew that something must really be bad with her.

And Jesse Jackson. NO one is leaving this funeral until it’s dark.

Dammit! I, literally, teared up when I read your mention about Stevie Wonder’s performance at MJ’s funeral. I was crying behind this song for days.

Now playing

Stevie Wonder’s the perfect person to close. Especially if his performance is anything like his appearance at Michael Jackson’s funeral.

Three things:

There’s also Rick Snyder, the asshole who won’t do anything about Flint. I hope people throw their garbage at him, all due respect to Aretha, but this man should not be welcome to any black event.

I <3 this so much!!! I haven’t even stopped laughing and crying yet! I told my co-worker the day Aretha died that if they thought Whitney Houston’s funeral was something then they’re not ready for what’s about to go down. This has outdone James Brown and they kept him on ice for about a year! She laughs when I tell

As a native Detroiter, trust, y'all ain't ready. We always feel like the underdog, so we 'bout to show out. Get your snacks and libations together. We're going to be here for a while.

Who made this schedule! LOL And I bet they gave somebody’s granddaughter the job to tell all these GROWN folks to stay on schedule cause you know that’s how black people do...

I had just moved away from Detroit when it was host to Rosa Parks’ 11 hour long funeral. I know two people who left Rosa’s service to get something to eat and went back.

Make a few pans of mac & cheese, throw on some collards, fry up some chicken, and turn your crib into a “Repast” pop-up.

I hope the white people invited to this funeral are prepared for black church.

This is beyond ambitious. Is all of this live? The only way to pull this off is via a rotating theatre.
