Yep. In most cases the philosophy is, "If a lifted truck can clear it, it can stay on the freeway."

My Fiat 850 Spider. It's probably the only running one in the state, it's super slow, very temperamental to keep running, it's not worth anything, and the only person who would be looking for parts for it is...me. If I'm ever carjacked, I'll just hand them the keys and say, "Good luck! Here's my number for when you

But if there are no other young car enthusiasts, in 20 years my friends and I can trade Ferraris and Superbirds and Supras for $500 all day long!

This leaves out age and engine type. Cheer up guys, this could just as likely be the average car:

This happens a lot in my Milano. It likes to be shifted north of 4k and even with the factory exhaust sounds pretty incredible, so people always think I'm trying to race them. No thanks; I don't feel like exploding my Guibos (delicate rubber driveshaft couplings) today...

Wow. This is the only new car I really want. Once you've driven something that weighs less than 2,000 lbs (such as my Fiat 850 Spider) it's hard to go back.

Big truck?

A little late on the draw here, but I just want to say I resent the use of a disassembled Porsche as an illustration of a crazy project!

Jalopnik, I have too much to do today for you to lead me down that endless link-chain of pre-Wright Brothers Flight.

If it's not leaking, it's out of something.

Back when I was looking for a daily driver, I looked quite hard for a Lincoln Diesel. Alas, I didn't find one...but I sure tried.

The Dino Spider!

I'll submit the Fiat 2300S Coupe

Bingo

This would make an interesting QOTD. I have a feeling some of the late 60's muscle cars would take the win, but it would be interesting to see a decade-by-decade breakdown.

The base model DSMs had 90hp (I have one. It's a great car with incredible MPG.) The AWD turbo models made around 200hp. I'm having trouble thinking of any other recent car that more than doubled its power between the base and top-spec models, especially when the displacement difference was only 200cc. Anyone?

I buy all of my lemons with cash. No repo worries.

If you want Italian car style and performance, you have to deal with Italian car issues. Trying to get around this with a redneck engine swap will only anger the Italian car gods, and their wrath will be tenfold what it would have been had you just kept the original engine.

You only asked if it could do it, not if it could do it well ;)
