This article is a lot better than those obnoxious “Deals” crossposts that pop up several times a day in order to help fund Gawker. But we deal with them, because they help fund Gawker. All hail Gawker, the mighty one.
I don’t have a good grasp on the hobby as a whole, but after having read a lot on Kinja’s O&E sub-blog, I’ve noticed that most of those guys drive either Land Rovers, old Toyotas or AWD crossovers.
I’ll accept that response. Well put.
And if cars didn’t exist they couldn’t fall on you either.
Jeez, this joke is going over everyone’s heads. That if the car is not in motion it is not falling on you. That’s it. Just a joke.
Gravity is only an issue once the car is in motion- downward, in this case. If the car is not falling on you, it’s not a problem ;)
Except 60's Imperials. Watch out for those.
Nope, because I put it on jack stands before sliding under.
*While not in motion*

I’ve blown up a bicycle tube once, and a couple rim strips on tubeless setups, and that scares the sh*t out of me. Sounds like a gunshot. I have since gotten better at installing tubes, but now wear hearing and eye protection when seating a tubeless bead with an air compressor.
Automatic transmissions.
Guys, I love ya, but the Facebook vids are still not showing up for me on Firefox (with APB, Ghostery). IE-11 works, but, no thanks. “Social Media” is great and all, but is it possible to just YouTube these things? Please? YouTube simply works. :) Thanks!
The Buy It Now price might leave a divot in your bank account.
I’m ashamed to ask, but what is the car on the top left of the image? It looks as if it has quad round sealed beam headlights.
I remember it from your CarFax article a while back. It looks rough on the outside, but what else was wrong with it?
Lol, regardless of condition, those sound about a decade newer than I was expecting for “beaters”. So, why was the Kia such a revelation when you’d had these experiences before?
I’m reading this, and I’m wondering if you’ve ever owned a beater car. I hope so. Owning a beat up, crap car is the proper trial-by-fire, how-it-should-be experience for any budding car enthusiast. And it shows you what to avoid in the future, thereby appreciating nicer cars.
Ok, thanks. I’ve seen a few, but they are definitely not common.
Were 3/4 ton Suburbans pretty rare back then? I’m pretty sure they are now... it’s just kind of funny seeing it called out as a “K10 4x4".
