This is a great analogy.

I agree, but the effect is even more pronounced in games like Overwatch, where individual skill takes a backseat to other factors like team composition and coordination. Compare that to a game like Counterstrike, where a single pro with an AWP can just run the match.

Agreed, I pretty much only play Quick Play because I’m jumping in by myself, but I still main Reinhardt almost all of the time because so few people pick tanks.

I know this, hence my comment.

I have! You’re right, those games are still a lot of fun solo.

That’s fair. Maybe it’s more of a genre thing than anything else.

“I do think people know what role they want to play before they play, I do think people would have more fun playing in a premade group than just sort of randomly hoping the matchmaker finds them someone with the same values as them”

Do you switch from playing a Hunter to playing a Priest in the middle of a dungeon?

I mean, I was just kidding around, but this is an impressive tirade against Mario.

On the contrary, I know a lot of people (myself included) have been having a blast. Fun is subjective though.

Game developers play online games themselves, they’re not idiots. I’m sure they knew there would be instances of this happening.

I’m with you, man. Pokemon Sun was pretty rough, but I soldiered on since I was determined to use my DS again.

I love this categorization, and I’ll be categorizing all of the games I play like this from now on (at least internally). It’s also a great exercise in assessing your own “gaming inventory”.

Hated Mario Odyssey

I agree with you, I’m a developer myself. Project managers don’t always agree that it’s worth the time investment upfront, though.

Sounds like they’re already past that point. They’d need to have a very compelling reason to do a rewrite, like adding another must-have character with a similar mechanic.

I don’t personally find the gym that boring, but I agree there are plenty of ways to exercise that aren’t at the gym. The bottom line is that people need to get off the couch or computer chair and move regularly, doing whatever keeps them motivated.

There are a lot of ways to eat healthy while saving time. Look into crock pot or instant pot meals. You can throw a bunch of ingredients in, wait a while, and you have a fully cooked meal. Also, cook several meals at once so you can just reheat things through the week/weekend.
