Internal testing is a much different approach than a wide-scale open beta. I don't get your point.

Dead Island was truly awful. This game seems to be pretty good though, by most accounts. I'm considering picking it up.

An internal test is not the same as a closed beta. A closed beta involves clients/customers, and is considered acceptance testing. Internal testing is for employees, software engineers and otherwise, or outsourced testing companies.

On a related note, over the weekend I had a chance to watch some people playing the "Battle Royale" mode on H1Z1, which seems to be very similar. You're put on a shrinking map with 149 other people and no zombies, and have to scavenge for weapons/vehicles to try to be the last person standing. Seemed pretty fun.
