Nikola has been delivering 300+ mi BEV trucks to customers for a few months. They’ve built a little over 100 so far, delivering to dealers, with several different major pilot deployments with drayage fleets. They have alpha versions of their 500+mi FCEV in testing deployments right now, and recently unveiled the

Hi! Automotive engineer here! Seeing lots of folks debate about how much heavier this thing will be versus a diesel truck. For starters, keep in mind that they make it clear this is a day-cab. Day-cabs tend to weigh between 10k and 20k pounds with fuel, no trailer.

I agree with the rear turn signals- at the very least, if the turn signals are red they shouldnt be optically combined with the brake light.

I wont contest your first sentence, but for the record, NHTSA released their ruling on adaptive headlamps in February. Its not written into FMVSS 108 yet, of course, but a NHTSA ruling is as good as law.

There’s too much regulation in the USA which is why this couldn’t be done earlier

He didn't even co-found PayPal. He started x.com which merged with Cofinity (Cofinity was later renamed PayPal). He was fired from PayPal due to incompetence and took a golden parachute.

Typos have been addressed. Maybe next time consider being kinder.

Nah, they’re supposed to look like the old Type R, not like someone gave up half way through an origami swan.

As an automotive lighting engineer, I’m thrilled with Honda’s lighting design on this new generation. The forward lighting is exceptionally well integrated into the front styling, helped immensely by them dropping that damn hideous Chrome Overbite. The rear lighting looks stellar- way more life and personality than

This car sits at an odd place. For very little more money (and no wait list shenanigans), you can get a Golf R with AWD, optional DCT, more comfort, nicer interior. For almost $10k less, you can get an Elantra N that fills the “FWD with lots of power and drives awesome with a decent interior” role pretty well, and

That’s a great looking car with great specs and Honda reliability. It’s a damn shame that you won’t be able to get them at list price. (And the Golf R / GTI dash should try to be that well designed and attractive.)

For some time we had a single red dixie cup tech-screwed down on the trunk of our 24hrs of lemons car.... we were working on the rear brakes, and one of us set it on the trunk, one of the other guys came along with the 1/4" driver with an extension, and made sure that thing became a permanent accessory on the car...

Okay okay, hold your fire and hear me out. The Rivian front lighting is… weird. I don’t know that I would call it beautiful or even particularly clever, BUT it is extremely special. Let me explain…

The demonstrator already has its engines and is in pre-flight testing.

It’s interesting to see how all of our crazy CFD modeling and generative design capabilities send us towards the same general shape when you’re trying to reduce a supersonic pressure wave. It’ll be interesting to see whether the X-59 or the Boom scale demonstrator will fly first.

Time to start using Florida toll roads to start drawing penises.

Whatever you say grandpa. It’s a FUN design, and that’s all it needs to be.

The more you know.  Preciate the insights!
