It is even worse this generation, because a lot of engines are now Deferred renderers which is terrible for MSAA. If they implement MSAA it is very performance intensive and not very effective (see MSAA in Frostbyte); other engines exclude its use entirely, thus focus exclusively on post process AA.

Basically the semantics are if some gameplay system cannot be implemented in a previous generation then that is next gen. The Nemesis System could not be implemented on older systems, therefore it is next gen. Titanfall plays practically the same on older systems, therefore isn't next gen.

If the same gameplay was possible on old machines then it isn't next gen. You can make that argument for Shadow of Mordor, but not TitanFall.
