Bradley, did you consider the regular Regal as well? I test drove both and liked how the liftback drove a lot better, the wagon seemed too floaty with the raised suspension. The Regal’s high on my list as a next car but I’m torn between which version to get.

It’s just a marketing game. When people shop around in a car’s given class, i.e. Camry/Accord/Malibu etc., one of the deciding factors is how much space each car gives you. If a Camry is winning sales over an Accord because the back seat is more spacious, Honda is going to make the back seat of the next generation

I’m confused with the tone on this article - Jalopnik bitches constantly about the quality of the subway and how badly mismanaged it is, but yet you believe those same managers wouldn’t mess this up too? Why do you think their original plan would finish on schedule, based on their past performances?

Look at the shape of that thing - you’re not making a thin walled container like that out of aluminum in any sort of cost-effective manner. Hell I’m not sure you could do it even with cost as no object. Perhaps they could have made it a less complex shape to make aluminum feasible, but that would compromise packaging

So much this! As someone whos had sidewalls blow out twice (including on tires that were all of 2 weeks old) because of stupid stock 19" rims the danger is real. Potholes on the Mass pike will destroy these things.

That’s not a bad idea, though I worry about Leafs (Leaves?) long term since the battery is air cooled. Batteries are pretty sensitive to temperature.

Oh they’re definitely not on par yet, but they’re getting closer every year. And some people are willing to pay more for those EV advantages too, so they don’t necessarily have to be the same or less than a gas car.

Exactly. We just bought a house with a garage, and my thinking is along the same lines. It just makes too much sense for us not to have at least one EV or plug-in hybrid- likely in a few years when she’s ready to replace her CX-5. Hopefully the cost discrepancy comes down by then.

Hey I agree - I think I’ll always have at least 1 gas car, even if it’s a coupe for the weekends. But for day to day commuting/errands/etc. an EV is probably in my future as well. After riding in a model 3 it’s hard not to see the appeal of EVs in general, especially if they keep improving.

The fact is that even setting aside the whole “green” thing, EVs today have a lot of advantages over a gas car for a lot of people. They’re not quite on par with gas cars yet, mostly due to cost and range, but that’s getting better each year. For example, the Leaf doubled its range from the 1st generation to the 2nd,

That’s interesting - I’d guess Rivian would pay around the same at best(costs have come down since then, but GM has a much better negotiating position). If so that ~$30k just on the battery pack. Doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for the rest of it, let alone actually making a profit.

January? Dammit, I was seriously considering canceling Prime at the end of this year. Looks like they got me hooked for 2019 now. Though with them canceling the show after that there’s not much to keep me around after that. This was the only show on there that got me excited.

“the largest being a 180 kW battery pack” - slight correction, this should be 180 kWh. Kilowatt hours are a unit of energy capacity, kW refers to power.

Maserati hasn’t known what it wants to be for a very long time, this is not a recent phenomenon. They just can’t seem to execute in any one plan fully. The recent direction could’ve worked, but the cars weren’t great. Who really wants a more expensive Alfa Romeo with even worse build quality?

Agreed. It would be nice to have an article that better explains what drives efficiency on EVs. Other than the obvious stuff shared with ICE cars like aero and rolling resistance, what are the critical components on an EV that affect it?

The fun answer? Just take then end off, reinforce the bottom end, add a loading mechanism, and there you go!

Seriously, this is burying the lede. Hopefully that charging rate spreads to future VW EVs.

That’s good to hear. Realized after I posted that you’ve put a lot about this car on oppo, should’ve checked first.

Nice! I’m considering one myself and was gonna go with the blue gray color, but that looks pretty damn sweet...
