Oh totally agree. It threw me for a loop when I was behind one in traffic a few years ago. Just as you said - I expected those to light up, but nothing. I thought they were broken until I noticed the lower ones. Just a stupid design. 

They are brake lights in other countries. They had to add the secondary ones in the US market b/c of some regulation on distance between the 3rd brake light and the rest.

I think the Goodyear lawyers did send him something like a cease and desist letter saying the docs were released in error and threatening legal action if he published, but it’s not like you can take that at face value. Good on him to go through with the story, this whole thing is fascinating.

The weirdest part about that door is the handle - the finish has clearly been worn away from use. Why are they using it so much if it’s a door to nowhere? Why would an “emergency” door get that much use even if it led somewhere? So many questions.

What tires do you have on it? There was a Freep article the other day blasting GM for shipping these with the wrong tires that are too loud - I guess the special quiet ones aren’t produced in sufficient numbers yet so GM went ahead with louder ones. Curious if that’s the case here.
