Oh totally agree. It threw me for a loop when I was behind one in traffic a few years ago. Just as you said - I expected those to light up, but nothing. I thought they were broken until I noticed the lower ones. Just a stupid design.

They are brake lights in other countries. They had to add the secondary ones in the US market b/c of some regulation on distance between the 3rd brake light and the rest.
Does this guy not remember what happened to blockbuster? Granted they had a lot of issues, but what finally did them in was that they basically copied Netflix’s strategy without having the underlying tech/algorithms behind it. Turning HBO into a Netflix clone will create the same problem.
My guess? Weight. Adding mechanisms to allow swapping will add weight Probably not a lot relative to the batteries, but then again this is a race car where every bit of weight is important.
A decently styled car, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these with all the tail lights working. Says something about either Hyundai’s quality or they type of buyers they went after.
Is this not what FCA was already doing? Chrysler, Dodge, and Fiat are dying on the vine. I think the Pacifica was the last truly new product from any of those brands, and that came out what, 2 years ago?
In all likelihood Blue Origin will end up being bigger than SpaceX within the next decade. Yes SpaceX has the head start, but nobody else can spend 1 billion dollars a year on development. They’ve already confirmed more ambitious plans than SpaceX (actual announced plans, not Musk’s ramblings), and with that amount of…
Am I understanding this right? The people behind this law wanted these companies to continue to provide these free services, but require explicit consent for the data collection that these companies use to keep these services free?
Mine was doing that as well, but I reinstalled it a few days later and it seems to be back to normal. Still one of the biggest battery killers on my phone in general, but I figure any email client I use constantly would be the same.
Thanks for this article, it’s very enlightening.
I figured on the escape, but after looking it up it’s shocking how quick those subcompact SUVs are catching up. It’s too early to tell for the ecosport, but the top 3 most likely competitors (HR-V, Trax, and Renegade) are all around 20-25k sales YTD and growing. The Fusion is at 43k sales and falling. Hard to believe…
How is ford not making money on the Fusion? They have plenty of high level trims that should make lots of cash.
Ouch. Have your star.
Came for this, left satisfied.
Great comment - 125k cars is actually not that many. Worldwide there were 68 million cars sold last year.
Also, they had a great badge.
I think the Goodyear lawyers did send him something like a cease and desist letter saying the docs were released in error and threatening legal action if he published, but it’s not like you can take that at face value. Good on him to go through with the story, this whole thing is fascinating.
The weirdest part about that door is the handle - the finish has clearly been worn away from use. Why are they using it so much if it’s a door to nowhere? Why would an “emergency” door get that much use even if it led somewhere? So many questions.
What tires do you have on it? There was a Freep article the other day blasting GM for shipping these with the wrong tires that are too loud - I guess the special quiet ones aren’t produced in sufficient numbers yet so GM went ahead with louder ones. Curious if that’s the case here.
Apparently a lot of people in CO are due for a ticket - “Parking lights must be illuminated on any vehicle parked alongside the roadway, whether attended or not, from sunset to sunrise or whenever you cannot see at least 1000 feet in front of you.”
