There was a TV miniseries in 1990, which had to omit most of the book in order to fit into a 187 minute running time.

IT is one of my favourite novels. I’ve read it every five years or so since it was published, and if anything it gets better.

Targaryens are not immune to fire.

I wonder when this is set?

Contact is a tremendous book, after which the film was a terrible disappointment, a mawkish, addled and overly sentimental travesty of not only the source material but also of everything Sagan stood for.

I actually really enjoyed Flatliners.

I liked Mandala Flynn a lot. I think she was only in The Entropy Effect (the first tie-in novel I read, and I retain a great fondness for it) but she was mentioned in McIntyre’s novelisations of II and III, by which time she was Captain of a long range mission to Andromeda.

That’s how I’ve always thought of 3 and 4 anyway; it’s the only angle that makes them remotely watchable.

Yup. BT do this in the UK. If you’re a BT customer, you can use other people’s home BT wireless routers as hotspots. Glancing at available networks, I can see two of my neighbours routers available right now.

The simplest explanation so far for the lack of observed evidence is that we are either the most advanced species or the only one.

I don’t think governments are anywhere near that good at keeping secrets, so I don’t believe for one moment there’s a cover up.

Lady Crane. Arya’s assassination target, the actress playing Cersei in the mummer’s farce.

I would have enjoyed The Thing prequel a lot more if the studio hadn’t insisted on speeding it up, adding jumps and action, and using CGI instead of practical effects. That could have been a pretty decent film.

Exactly this. Wang is the hero. Jack thinks he’s the hero, but he’s the comic sidekick, and we see the movie from his POV.

“If you’re going to have a conflict between optimism and pessimism, you need to have someone who represents a cynical view of life and also has the ability to affect this. I know it’s crazy but [Dr. Manhattan] felt like the right character to use.”

There’s a very interesting “making of” documentary on the TFA Blu-Ray about the Rey/Kylo duel in the snow forest. Their prop lightsabers glowed, so their faces and surroundings would be lit by their colours without them adding it all in post with CGI.

This is not correct.

This would be the ideal scenario.

I saw the midnight premiere and the geek density was dangerously high. Risk of whole cinema forming an event horizon.
