(According to Wikipedia) Disney Interactive lost $308 million in 2011. I would venture a guess that it hasn't changed much. Disney is posting an overall profit, but they're cutting back on a venture that's hemorrhaging money and doesn't have a bright future.

They don't hate it, they're just not good at it. It's not their strong point. Their successful games are typically licensed (ala Kingdom Hearts) instead of developed in house.

Corporations don't just lop off productive parts of their business. Even if they were the greatest employees in the world, it sounds like it wasn't a good idea to keep that part of the business around.
