That was my reaction. Nellie Bly is interesting enough just as she is.

Still bullshit. If they want to have a thriller with a woman in a Victorian mental institution, they can do that. That is literally what fiction is for - to make up scenarios that never happened. If they’re not interested in telling Nellie Bly’s story, why drag her name into it at all?
The movie will deliver a fictionalized account of actual events surrounding Nellie’s stay beginning after Nellie has undergone treatment, leaving her with no recollection of how she came to the asylum or her real identity.
Those hospital billing employees should be replaced with the first office robots to come off the assembly line. The robots would be less likely to screw up, and can be programmed to express empathy if they do.
This happened to me. The first person I spoke to about it at the hospital was pretty awful about it; she said “even dead patients have to pay.” I was eventually able to get the charges removed, but even so, kept getting notices from my insurance company asking if the claim was “related to an accident.”
Am I reading this right? The movie is going to pretend that Nellie Bly actually had amnesia rather than being clever enough that she managed to fool numerous doctors, nurses, judges, police, etc. into thinking she was insane, and that she therefore endured much of her treatment at Blackwell’s Island because she didn’t…
Why the hell are they altering how Bly got into the asylum? IIRC, she pitched the idea to her editor, and he arranged for her to be committed to the asylum while posing as her husband. That was part of the expose - not just the conditions inside, but how easy it was for unscrupulous relatives to have women…
Bonus points for anyone that happens to know who’s portrait adorns this particular room and perhaps was hanging right behind Donald Trump’s big dumb fucking head
Eric Trump, pretty much living up to his SNL image as a dullard.
If they can promise me scenarios as entertaining as Snookie trying to drunkenly bury herself in the sand to hide from the beach cops, then I’m there.
One reason the Republicans are getting away with dismantling not only our democracy, but all of the regulations and protections it has enabled (from Social Security to public employee unions to fire safety regs) is that so few people are alive today who can remember the world as it was before.
My grandmother and great-aunt were all dressed up to go there that very night, but their dates showed up late so the trip into the city was canceled!
As an architect, fire protection is literally 90% of my job. Hearing about things like locked egress doors and loading over capacity make my blood boil, it’s irresponsible!
10/10 would watch
I am not ashamed to admit I love this! Come at me with your Jersey Shore was the beginning of the downfall of society and all that mess, I.still.love.them.
If you’ve got a few minutes and want to engage in some sweet schadenfreude, check out some of the Entourage movie reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
Can we replace it with a show called “Witch Hunters” that is about a coven of witches who hunt down sexual predators and other scum?
It’s so weird that there was a time not that long ago where anything about that show (i.e., Entourage) was considered worthy of praise. It should hardly be a surprise that any Hollywood production would have some history of sexual harassment, but that show was basically about how men of modest talent are constantly…
