Hmm, guess it all comes down to perspective! I consider 6'4" slightly tall, like anything under that is average height (for men at least).

"He is super tall"
"There's plenty of room for doubt with or without DNA evidence."
That’s how you interpreted what he said? “Then I asked myself what are you doing?” is “I didn’t give, like, a single if, like, she noticed it and, like, was scared the fuck out, though, hurhurhur”?
That helps the restaurant, though. Best thing to do is go there, use it on non-seafood, and quietly leave pamphlets hidden in the restaurant seats.
"but (unsurprisingly) really doesn't do anything to actively combat the problem of human trafficking."
But you're missing the point that racism benefits at a personal level individuals in our society; you're whitewashing that fact by minimizing the privileges white people enjoy.
"It's saddening that all people do not realise that we are ALL better off if all these issues are removed."
"Harris adds that one way to approach the data—and the bias—is to be "deeply, deeply introspective about it.""
Excellent points; I agree with everything you said about where a lot of the problems stem from. I am probably a little bit more cynical in terms of intentionally changing our culture/psychology, however. I think I am reacting less to the fair pay act bill itself (which I think is well-drafted and should be passed)…
Serious question: how should it be handled when two individuals doing the same job for the same amount of time with the same qualifications, one man and one woman, are paid differently because one negotiated a higher salary and the other didn't? To automatically raise the non-negotiating individual's salary to match…
What about those of us who think there's a wage gap, but it's not 22 cents on the dollar?
I don't know about the court order part. Permanent termination of parental custody requires the state to jump through hoops and I don't think any judge could legitimately issue an order like that in perpetuity under the law.
Plea agreements are not per se coercive; otherwise every single one could be voided after they're entered into.
"Funk said people could be ordered to stay away from children, and the state wouldn't have to resort to such invasive measures."
Which is it? Seriously, I see this whole rich-people-never-get-punished thing and I don't quite follow what exactly people thinks happens. Do you actually envision a suitcase full of cash being handed over to a venal DA? Phone calls to shadowy fixers?
And you think that the owner can get away with violating the law (and the Constitution) because of that fact? How is it done? Would he/she bribe the DA? Assemble a dream team of lawyers that will intimidate the DA into dropping charges?
Ugh.
I don't get it. Are you saying the DA would never go after someone with the tremendous financial resources of...a local Indian restaurant?
