Well, luckily, Jews don't believe in Satan! Right? (No, I see where you're going with that, but I didn't ask him a scientific question. I asked him a spiritual question about science. I realize I was very fortunate to have a spiritual leader who was willing to give a fact-based answer.)

Alright. I buy that. I still don't think they should need to be mutually exclusive. (For me, they are, because I don't believe in a higher being. But still.)

My point isn't to say that it's possible; my point is to say that the two theories (well, one fact and one theory) are not mutually exclusive, so I'm not sure why creationists are so threatened by those who subscribe to evolution as fact.

Very early in my life - I think I was 8? - I asked my Rabbi whether he believed in evolution. He replied (something along the lines of), "Of course! Believing in evolution and believing that God created the earth are not mutually exclusive." And that was it.

That does make sense! (Unfortunately it probably makes too much sense for the American government.) I do think it also has that darned slippery slope, though, and would lead to much more confusion than just a blanket rule. Maybe only companies with more than 10 full-time employees would be beholden to the higher

I am not offering this as a solution to all problems, nor am I being accusatory, but I am genuinely curious. Regarding mrbasson's family's ice cream store: do you think small businesses like that would react better if the minimum wage were only raised for workers over a certain age? Or workers who are not dependents?

Ding ding ding! "Republicans are upset that more people are going to sign up for health insurance." Now they'll have to think of a different way to convince their audiences that ACA was a failure and no one wanted it!

Ahem. What she said was, she 'liked it better than the Pirates of Penzance.'

Is Hector Elizondo going to reprise his role? This is literally the only thing I care about.

I served at a family restaurant and I never expected a larger-than usual 15-20% tip from a family with small children. (When I got one, it was greatly appreciated, though!) What did make me not hate certain families, though, was when the parent(s) were clearly trying their best, helping me clean up messes, being

My mother-in-law once referred to Kevin Bacon as, "you know, that actor married to Kyra Sedgwick! The one on the serial killer show!" So we now call the game, Seven Degrees of Kyra Sedgwick.

Can we agree that we should just remain in a perpetual state of "sprung forward"?

Got it. Not really a "type" of penny, but I got it.

I don't get it. How is Jay-Z a penny?

Hi! I have a small leather purse that I'm obsessed with, but it is light yellow and now has a blue splotch on it from where it has rubbed against my cheap blue jeans for ages. Any ideas on how I can remove that stain without harming the bag?

Ok, so most religious people don't disagree with same-sex marriage. Sure.

I just don't understand people who are so deeply, deeply intent on influencing/judging other people's personal choices. Although I was not breastfed, I am sure that there are pros and cons to both breast feeding and formula feeding. Nothing is black and white. Why do people pretend it is?

My SIL loves to talk about how children who aren't breast fed don't turn out as well as those who are; she knows I was not breast fed. So, she and the rest of 'em can suck on the fact that I am an intelligent, well-educated, healthy, fit adult.

Good for you! Feeding choices are up to the mother and if you and your babies are happy, that's all that matters. (I assume your babies did not turn their noses at formula.)

Hot (post-haircut), loser boyfriend. For sure.
