In any case, The Last Jedi is certainly not without its praiseworthy notes. After all, it’s still a thoroughly enjoyable chapter...

the truly baffling thing is that as that was happening, the disney brass were ruthlessly cracking the whip on rogue one and solo. they created a system in which they explicitly said they were going to stand alone movies that would have creative freedom to explore different ideas, themes and characters in the SW

Exactly. Like, the fact that we’re STILL trying to pretend “this movie is perfect and the only people who don’t like it are racist and sexist” is such a weird take considering even the stars and especially Luke Skywalker himself are going “nah it wasn’t great.”

I think most of the issue with the Last Jedi for me can be boiled down to one thing:

The story in the press at the time was that Rian Johnson was basically given free reign to do what he wanted with TLJ which, to me, is baffling.  Like, if this were a stand alone sequel rather than the middle part of a trilogy that might have been a good idea but when you know right from the beginning that what you’re

My biggest issue with TLJ was that it makes Episode 7 obsolete. Everything that Ep 7 sets up is taken down. If you watch the OG trilogy, while directed by different people, coherently they all still fell like they are the same trilogy. TLJ was so “different” from Ep 7, that it feels awkward. I’m all for showing us

Great choreography?!?!?! It's worse than the dark Knight. Every guy not currently engaging Rey or kylo is doing pirouettes in the background fighting invisible enemies. It's comedically bad fight choreography.

Still think the problem here is that JJ made the movie he made, then he and Kathleen Kennedy pass the baton to Johnson and by all accounts tell him it’s up to him to figure out what he wants to do with it, what comes next, etc. (And we know setting up stuff without even the vaguest idea of where it’s going is JJ’s MO

It’s been interesting seeing some of the fans who would claim to just love this cast turn against them when they say things that don’t fit the message - namely the message that Last Jedi was the best Star Wars ever, incredibly transgressive, daring beyond words, and above criticism. I’ve repeatedly seen people try to

I’m more tired of the people, like this Scott Wampler person, trying to make a “controversy”out of the crew being asked questions about a film during a press tour and responding with something resembling an actual opinion.

Apart from the throne room fight scene it was a huge disappointment to me.  Hopefully JJ can end it all on a high.

a saga built on nostalgia and about family history

You know how The Last Jedi was all about letting go of the past and embracing something new? Well, turns out our fans actually really love the past, and have a lot of trouble letting things go, so we’re just going to go ahead and remake Return of the Jedi.

My favorite track on the album is “Slow Motion”—which wasn’t even included in the original American release! That was one productive session.

Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

SPOILER ALERT: she gets hit in the temple by a line drive during a softball tournament...

Not really. I plan to flush $20 down the toilet this Christmas, so it’ll be like I saw a Star Wars movie.

I have the eye-rolling, yet unsettling feeling we’re going to see old footage of Leia on the bridge of a transport ship or operations center, turning toward the view screen and then ‘becomes one with the force’. Poe in disbelief, walks over and starts poking at Leia’s cape on the floor with his boot.

Hey, if it can get fans of TLJ to stop throwing anyone who had a problem with the movie on the “They hate women/minorities/etc.” bus and actually have a dialogue about the serious issues with this film, I’m on board.

I’m just hoping that someone had the presence of mind to destroy all the archival storyboards of return of the jedi before they could steal them for star wars episode ix: return of the return of the jedi. I hope there aren’t any space scenes, they’ve lost space scene privileges after the travesty that was Star Wars
