This sounds perilously close to “Gatwa isn’t the real Doctor, that’s still Tenant’s Doctor”.

Not sure how I feel about the bi-generation. I assume Tennant will now be part of the UNIT spin off in the works. But Ncuti did great right off the bat so I look forward to his tenure.

The bi-regen doesn’t bother me, as this isn’t the first time a future incarnation and a current incarnation shared a regeneration episode. And honestly, this was better than “Logopolis”.

So we are all agreed, from now on I’m not just walking around the house in my underwear, I’m cosplaying as the Doctor.

The entire bi-generation thing (and the episode in general) was very silly and fun, but it’s Russel T. Davis we are talking about, who once wrote a two-parter about farting aliens.

Oh there was a reason.  My wife didn’t mind

Isn’t there already another Tenant Doctor running around with Rose in another universe? I believe he is fully human or some such silliness.

It was gutsy to have Ncuti act opposite his predecessor, but what surprised me is that he kind of commanded all of his scenes instead of the other way around. He really came in guns blazing. I was impressed.

I can’t wait. He’s enjoying himself so much on screen, his first full story’s gonna be a blast.

What I thought interesting about My Neighbor Totoro is that the father, who is even a science professor, is perfectly on board with with his daughters seeing a totoro, while in an American movie he’d be the villain, claiming that his daughters were lying or deluded.

That might be because it is a Studio Ghibli movie, but not specifically Muyazaki. It was written and directed by Isao Takahata.

Saw it yesterday with Jr Bear - he’s 10 and had no qualms about a super hero movie starring women. I will say I thought it was perfectly fine. There were some quirky edits - like I recall a specific one where the camera cut to a direct headshot of Brie Larson while she said like 3 words then cut elsewhere. It was

I dont think you can do a 1:1 Box Office comparison like that in the pandemic.

But do Disney movies really do prioritize progressive messages over story? Because honestly, it feels like they are doing the bare minimum lip service, but there is a profitable grifter ecology that will pounce on even that bare minimum to foment outrage about “woke Disney”.

i guess this is the movie and tv show equivalent of, “shut up and dribble”. Only this is worse because art comes from people’s experience or else we’d let AI do all the writing. What makes this more silly is that some of Disney’s most beloved properties have some kind of political messaging. It just seems daft as hell

You can't really not have a lesson or takeaway in a movie though. Even if it doesn't play a major role, basic storytelling structure demands that a lesson be learned by the main character along the way which bring the story to it's conclusion. What I THINK Iger is trying to say is that Disney was pandering to certain

It’s not just the Republican playbook. “Deflect, deny, and hope they die” is a long-running tactic of horrible people who gleefully suck the life out of society for personal gain, and those MFers come from all walks of elitists, entitled society...along with all the witless, ignorant sycophants to prop them up under

So Bob Iger killed Willow & The Mysterious Benedict Society for having positive messages for the world because Disney Plus was too stupid to capitalize on that.

disney paid millions to support republican campaigns and only backed off when their employees were in open revolt.

I am not trans, so my opinion is not worth shit, but i liked the scene because it was a subtle way of telling us she’s trans. Not subtle for trans people, of course, but for cis people unfamiliar with deadnaming, it can go over your head. It went over mine, until the grandma started talking and I out two plus two
