Thank you. This is exactly how I’ve always felt about the speech: It sounds nice but is utterly gutless in its refusal to be ABOUT anything.

You know, I never hear anyone complain about “pandering” in fiction when the character is straight. Or white. Or a dude. But the moment a character breaks out of that mold, then folks start scrutinizing them like mad. It would be nice if minorities could just have characters representing them without the internet…
This headline format needs to be the standard across the industry. It’s not “because of the writers’ strike” it’s “because studios won’t pay their writers.”
This wasn’t a technical blunder. This was an idea which was implemented exactly as intended. It’s just that the idea was incredibly stupid.
Okay, but they’re also going to be looking at maximizing income, and I doubt they’ll do so by cutting out the highest-grossing film franchise of all time.
No one likes it, but it’s silly for AV Club to say that no one remembers it. Every time a new Godzilla movie comes out (which, between the Godzilla/Kong American films and the ongoing original Japanese franchise, happens about every 2 or 3 years) there’s a bunch of hot takes and thinkpieces reminding everyone how ugly…
Con Air has no business being on this list. It’s pretty much a cult action movie classic at this point.
I know Ezra Miller is a trainwreck but it still bugs me how DC seems to want everyone to forget that this isn’t a Batman movie.
COVID is what fucked things up and required the day-date release, which you mention one time in the article.
Typically the way anime works is that it takes ages for a second season to come out, but if a show is popular enough to get that far, then subsequent seasons will come out much more quickly, usually on a yearly basis.
Westworld was one of HBO’s most popular shows, had already been renewed for a 5th and final season. Zaslav cancelled it anyway (even though it violated his contract with the actors and required him to pay them millions) because the show had a high budget and he decided he’d rather use that money to make multiple…
Oh man, which superhero should I pick? Edgy cliched Superman parody, or edgy cliched Superman parody with mustache?
Oh, so that’s what C-3PO meant by “human-cyborg relations.”
“Wokeness” means being bad at sending emails?
I just hired and fired a guy
This guy sounds like a generic right wing douchebag, and the world’s right wing douchebags are currently having their brains eaten by transphobia. So they have to shove their obsession into every conversation they possibly can.
Okay, out of the modern titles I’ve only played MKX, so maybe 11 fixes this, but: I mean, plotwise, a reboot seemed inevitable because they sorta wrote themselves into a corner in X, where a big time jump ages all the characters so now the main cast are all in their 50's. You can’t move the timeline forward too much…
Yeah, but the game is free to play now, which means its survival relies on hardcore fans who are willing to invest in the game. And hardcore fans care about lore.
The promised AI game revolution has arrived!
It’s still hand-drawn, but now it’s digitally inked and colored, which does change the look quite a bit (this isn’t unique to The Simpsons; no cartoon produced in North America has been colored by hand for over a decade.)
