All the terror is rooted in the fact that electrics require fewer parts to build and have much less to break over the life of the product.
That’s...not a bad take by Hachigo at all. He’s right that there are numerous hurdles to an EV replacing a gas-powered car at this time, and it’s not something that looks primed to change within the next decade barring an unprecedented investment into global infrastructure.
Within a minute of pulling out of the parking lot I noticed perhaps the best pedal feel on the market today mixed with incredibly communicative and responsive steering.
I feel like off-roaders are the one car segment where an electric powertrain doesn’t make sense. There aren’t exactly recharging stations out on the trails, and solar panels will only get you a couple miles extra range per day whereas the fuel in a jerry-can will take you a hundred miles.
Just did a quick search near me and WOW - there are a ton of 2019s and a few 2018s hanging around on lots with absurd discounts here in the Northeast.
Still trying to figure out how is this thing going to pass any crash test, perform acceptably in any emergency maneuver test, or meet visibility and mirror requirements. The more I see it, the more I think this thing has to be a joke and the real Tesla pickup truck is going to be revealed soon, once the board ousts…
Honestly the whole idea of de-contenting appeals to me since I don’t need much in my daily commuter. At this point all I really need is aircon, a pair of 12V DC outlets, and some way to get audio from my phone to whatever speakers are in the doors and I’m good to go.
I now know what I’m doing with my videogame collection down the road...
This. A friend of mine traded a 2-year-old BMW 3 series for a brand new Camry about a year ago, and sitting in both cars it was shocking just how much nicer the Camry was even though it stickered 10K less. And the BMW had the real leather option, not the SensaTec.
Thanks to Jalopnik, I know that the windshield washers on classic Volkswagen Beetles are powered by the compressed air in the spare tire.
That explains a lot actually
Neutral: It’s less about screen size and more about what that screen is doing. While I prefer a screen around 7 or 8 inches, it doesn’t matter how big or small it is when it’s running EnTune or some other garbage proprietary OS that was outdated before the first design document was written.
I mean...I grew up playing Motorhead and other similarly angular Saturn and PSOne racing games, so I guess it’s time to drive the car of my childhood dreams...?
I’m old enough to remember when Jimmie Johnson made his debut as one of NASCAR’s youngest new drivers. This news just makes me feel old. Really old.
Neutral: When someone cracks the code that makes adding 250+ miles of range take under five minutes.
They did update the Versa for MY2020- and dare I say it looks better than any other car starting under $16k. https://www.nissanusa.com/vehicles/cars/versa-sedan.html
This is...actually kinda brilliant. Maybe the dads in Ford’s boardroom are on to something.
