I absolutely agree. Performance and social signalling instead of actual engagement, and then even when you do try to get involved in activism it’s quite often already been co-opted.

Well, he’s not going to be President, is he? His campaign told Kasich that the Veep would be running everything, and his Veep is a fucking monster.

B Barry Bamz was tarred as a socialist for years and still won. Socialism is no longer a dirty word in America. It’s been used too much.

Age is really the big problem, but like you said, they’ve been almost aggressive about not developing a bench. It’s almost as if the DNC was really incompetently run for years...

Julian Castro or Liz Warren maybe? There’s nobody.

It’s worth pointing out that Johnson was the third party candidate favored by Republicans who couldn’t bring themselves to vote Trump, and that he likely did more to help Clinton win in Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Minnesota.

Don’t you dare blame this on the socialists. The only third party candidate who made a dent was Gary, king of the Never Trump republicans.

Wait, you’re telling me that Democrats might have been in denial despite mounting evidence, and might have shown it through denying BLM a place in the national discourse? Surely not!

So, Scalia will be replaced with another Scalia?

Yeah, I’m hoping that this browbeats them into acknowledging the existence of the left. It probably won’t, considering how toxic their response was to calls for liberals to appreciate economic precarity, but here’s hoping!

Is it? I mean, Pence is probably running the show, and he’s on par with any given member of the Bush administration.

Ah, there is a left. It just got told off for being “Bernie bros.”

If you’re not willing to separate performance from policy, you’re not going to get how bad the Obama presidency was for a lot of people. Particularly people of color. You’re not going to be able to look at drone strikes, at intervention in Syria and Libya or the toleration of the rise of white supremacist fascism in

Okay, now look at his numbers on deportation. Look at his foreign policy and propensity for violent intervention. Look at what I said about him escalating some of Bush’s worst policies, then realize that maybe, just maybe, he wasn’t the man you thought he was.

No, I’m counting that under Obama embracing and escalating. I mean, look at the consumate failure that’s been the American response to ISIL.

That would be a relevant point if Trump were actually going to run the country, but as we learned prior to the convention, he plans to defer to those around him.

That’s absolutely true- I got out of the country a while back for that exact reason. It was inevitable though, regardless of who won, the nazis would feel empowered. Hopefully local groups have prepared.

Maybe I’m speaking from the privileged position of an expat, but I didn’t mean everything was going to be okay- I just meant that this kind of thing has happened before, probably will happen again, and that we as a collective can weather it.

There were a lot of vulnerable people who didn’t survive the last eight years because of the Democratic party’s capitulation.

If you’re having anxiety, remember this:
