I hear ya. In 94 I thought I was gonna have a nervous breakdown during the shootout with Italy. Fortunately, Baggio came through.
FIFA instituted sudden death (under the euphemistic name of “golden goal”) for a while. Everyone hated it. It felt even more unfair. It didn’t really compel teams to be more decisive in regulation time. It didn’t stick around for long.
I’ve always liked them. As a kid I wished all matches ended in shootouts. They often feel unfair but they’re the only way out after going 120 minutes and not scoring. If neither teams score it's a chance they'll have to take.
+1 saves.
You mean Fox News lied to us? *gasp*
This match finally made me realize that Jesus finally got a haircut, has Danish citizenship, and isn’t the best at penalty kicks.
True. Meltdowns in the knockoff stages or the final are always common. He has a wide assortment to choose from though: nervous breakdown, headbutting etc. Sky's the limit.
Hey, at least he’s been keeping his chompers to himself. That’s gotta count for something!
Refs are going into these matches like
Cavani played his heart out, I hope they go far. I wanted to kill the ref toward the end, just blow the fucking whistle and put Portugal out of their misery.
+1 never forget (to refuel the plane).
In my friends and family WhatsApp groups as well as the deluge of gifs and memes Brazilians have been sharing online after each match.
Yup. I remember when he was just starting out at 17. He was insanely fast and had complete command of the ball, baffling defenders and midfielders. Now he just flops all over and whines he’s being fouled too much, as if he’s untouchable. If you lose the ball so much then you’re not as good as you once were/could be.…
Thank God for Coutinho, he’s been a commanding presence consistently. Dude’s hungry for wins and is willing to work hard for them. Meanwhile, we see Neymar out here just
Yup. I was wary when Germany was eliminated earlier. My first thought was “well, the way we’ve been playing, we may as well be next”. We’re better but very far from the level at which we should be performing. It’s been underwhelming so far to say the least.
Let’s be honest, Brazil sucked today. Reputations aside, they haven’t turned in any convincing performances so far.
I don’t doubt you but there’s enough misery to go around.
Yup, that’s how it felt. It’s like the writers were going “nudge nudge, wink wink, aren’t we smart? There are TIMELINES! And no one can make sense of them! We’re so effing GENIUS!” I got tired of it.
My husband and I stopped watching this season after episode 2 and didn’t look back. No matter how convoluted a show is, if the viewer can find some semblance of internal logic to what’s happening (even if magical or hypertechnological aspects are in play), then it’s still engaging and worth watching. Westworld seems…
