The “short version” of the cue, routine, and reward loop you described is VERY off base. In Duhigg’s writing, the reward component is a direct outcome of the routine in a habit, not an end goal by changing your habits. Intrinsically habits already have positive feeling rewards, otherwise they wouldn’t be so regular.
