Objectively, this protest worked. Living in Canada, I would never have heard of pro-Confederacy marches in Mississippi in 2019 otherwise. I certainly hadn’t heard or read anything about this outrage yet.

These athletes are true patriots.

Football is such a weird most popular sport. It’s exclusive to men at most levels, almost no one plays the full game (pads, refs, 11v11, etc.) as an adult, and people apparently have no interest in seeing the game (including people paid to pretend to care about it) outside of its 5-month season.

I don’t disagree but I think it’s worth mentioning that the NHL also had a long tradition of sending the vast majority of their draft picks to either Junior, the AHL or the NCAA. The NBA hasn’t really had a functional minor league system. If this means better NBA/D-League integration, that’s probably for the best. 

The NBA age restriction was always premised on the paternalistic bullshit that young, black men would not be well prepared to deal with the big money and fame they would receive at a nascent adult age. A retrograde argument contradicted by the fact that the NHL (and its many owners who also control NBA franchises)…
