I legitimately hated this. I love dirk gently and I usually don't hate adaptations, but the execution was simply very messy. Had they not called it Dirk Gently, I'd be more interested. I'll give it one more episode to impress me, but the actor playing Dirk turned him from highly intelligent charlatan to a mere

Damn.

Speaking as someone observing from Europe, it does seem as if the argument is more 'can we trust someone who cuts corners?' than 'this is illegal and we need to see her jailed'.

In a world with actual gods and 'angels' with a running theme of allegiances long past reuniting to fight a common, returning enemy I don't see how it's a deus ex machina so much as it's just consistent with the rest of the plot. The Dead of Dunharrow owe the numenorean kings in exile their allegiance and are cursed

I don't understand the allure of previews. They just spoil important plot points at best and the entire plot at worst.

At least he believed in something!

He's a former mormon. Calling it.

My great grandma was spinning in her grave as I wrote that comment. Even thinking the word lancashire was sacrilege to her.

If you really want a great alternate history nazis in allied countries novel, try Dominion, by C J Sansom. Great read. set in a much more possible reality. ie. No A-bomb. I think the idea in that one was that the US never got involved, IIRC.

It did, at the previous year's Cop Con!

She didn't sound like she was actually from manchester though, I have to say. Sounded more like someone from south yorkshire trying to sound like they were from Manchester, which is at least close.

The accents were all a little off. The one that sounded closest to my ear to trashy mancunian was the Tesco's sister, but even that was very played up. Unfortunate, but you know, that's life.

Considering Alfred's plot devices are for the most part actual historical events influenced and used to his advantage by the real Alfred, I think you might have accidentally described what made him so great in the first place.
