Yeah, it definitely sucks. Hopefully they improved the 401k match, so if you’re in your 20's you might be able to about break even. But if you’re in your 40's or 50's, you’re screwed.
It’s illegal to take your pension away. Your company likely just capped your benefit at what you had earned at that point, and took away future benefits that you hadn’t earned yet.
Well, it’s like crack. Back in the 80's, when inflation was high, a 7.5% return assumption was reasonable, or possibly even too low. But once that assumption is in place, it becomes addictive and painful to lower.
