No you’re not, some of the poshest people I know REVEL in a bargain (I am British). They’re much more likely to tell you the price of something if it was ridiculously cheap than they are if they’ve actually dropped some real cash on something. Talking about (real) money is incredibly gauche.
It’s funny, I’ve found people with money will talk about it, but only in certain contexts. You never say how much you individually spent on something, or how much you make, or have. That’s vulgar. Someone ELSE’S money, however (or lack thereof) is always fair game.
