For me the issue with rice (and also pasta) is that portion control is extremely difficult. It’s hard to prepare a single serving of either, and tends to be rather dense calorically so inadvertently over-eating them can do some damage. Moderation is the key, and I’ve always found rice to be hard to moderate.
