Actually, the Plan B was Boehner's move to try and get a bill to the floor knowing that the Democratic Senate would say no to it. But he couldn't even line enough of his party up behind it to get it on the floor for Dems to balk at. Republicans talking about it after the vote stated they couldn't support Boehner's…
Genius.
It's still a little weird that they refer to him by his most famous character in the lede, while referring to her by her name. Why is it not "Precious and Mark Suarez?" She's at LEAST as associated with that role as Indelicato is with Suarez.
It's pretty gross, especially because there was so much unqualified and unnecessary rhetoric aimed at a generalized "China" for "stealing US jobs" during the presidential debates. While I doubt it's intentional, the messaging feels strongly anti-China while uncritical of the CCP.
That definitely happens a lot. Luhrmann usually makes a big deal about his soundtrack choices though... we'll see.
Totally agreed— and let me join you and gush over Lee Pace too. He is criminally underappreciated! Talented and gorgeous— I loved him in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. He can do the period and looks the part, I agreed that he'd be a great Nick.
I'm really bothered that this adaptation of the book which most defines Jazz Age America appears to have NO JAZZ IN IT! I understand that Luhrmann's "thing" is the anachronistic soundtrack, and I think sometimes it can work (Romeo + Juliet) but this seems really dumb. If you want to do that anachronistic soundtrack…
That's a good question, actually. The biggest problem I have is coming up with a female analogue to the "nice guy." The whole "Nice Guy" thing incorporates PUA (friend zone) and that cocksure, dismissive misogyny (stupid women, you only like assholes!) in a pretty particular brew. And I feel like that attitude or…
Another situation where "To me," could've helped a lot. Opinions are fine, but opinions expressed as fact will rouse the beast...
Good lord, that's killing me too. I keep telling myself that it doesn't matter, it's posturing because Obama and the Senate could pass LITERALLY ANYTHING and McConnell couldn't get R votes on it in the House because Obama Derangement Syndrome... but seriously. Polls show that the public generally lays blame for the…
I definitely understand your point, and I agree that to me it's not a particularly funny read. I've thought about why I would personally visit these sites ever since People of Walmart took off. I eventually stopped visiting PoW because it is (or seems to be) mostly the mentally ill and the severely impoverished…
Yes! So good!
Yeah, it always sucks to feel like you're cutting someone off without giving them a chance... but when it comes to intimacy/sexuality there's a reason to be less forgiving. If it was like "C'mon, try the cherry cheesecake. You'll like it! You'll LIKE IT!" that'd be a different story ;)
I'm not; this is why:
If he doesn't understand "no" early in the relationship, the problem will only grow as you become more intimate.
This.
I... I still like saccharin. It's TOO sweet, it's weird and chemical-ish, it causes cancer and headaches and brain-chuff and intestine-sludge and whatever else, and I STILL love it in certain things. A tall glass of iced tea with half a packet... or coffee with the same. I assume it's whatever sort of crazy taste…
I think that is the most disgusting reaction to this whole thing— the reflexive response from the gun fetishists that EVERYONE should be armed. That's what it'll take to justify their Westworld fantasy in which everyone is an armed combatant— then they'll REALLY be able to victim-blame! "If only Grandma Smothers had…
That's what I was thinking. If the kitchen causes a problem and the server handles it gracefully then they may get a bigger tip— and if the problem is bad enough that they comp the meal, my tip is based on what I WOULD'VE paid and therefore is well over 15-20%.
