@slob360: I think it comes from the fact that you'll never get the image/video quality from an iPhone as you get from an HDSLR (or even a decent modern P&S), so to make up for that lack of quality, you instead filter it for a more quirky effect, where the lack of quality is the actual draw and is, in fact, enhanced.
