Even so, for a ~300hp vehicle to be faster than a ~900hp “super” car around the National circuit with its long straights is quite surprising.

Not really, even at “pedestrian” speeds the gravity effect is counter-acted by the centripetal force of cornering. I’ve done a few (hundred?) laps in non-race vehicles and within reason gravity doesn’t affect the vehicle too much if you’re moving, only at low speed (<15mph) is there an issue.
