Um, am I the only one who noticed (according to the image, anyways) that shares opened at $60 and closed at $55, losing just north of 8% of their value in a single day?

Indeed, but in the end it’s their right to walk away. It’s a business deal, if a business walks away from a contract they pay a penalty, it’s no different in this case.
Businesses renege on contracts occasionally. They pay a penalty, but they leave contracts when they feel it is right to do so. RBR is a business, they can break the contract if they want and will have to face whatever penalty they are faced with.
They screwed themselves into a corner, yes. That could well be the reason they are wanting to quit, they physically can’t compete.
You know what’s funny?
On the flip side, isn’t it fair for a team to look at the state of the sport, at their current situation, take an assessment of where it’s all going, and decide to stop participating?
Won’t work, the block isn’t designed to be a stressed member.
