I never said M was dead. They're just different, and the M4 nameplate reflects that change and difference.

This is not an M3. The M4 marks the end of an era. The E92 was the last shout of the race-bred M-division, with its N/A V8. The crown. The only true M3s were E30s and maybe E36s, getting fatter and fatter.
