The expectation is that the two spouses will have achieved all of their preliminary professional, financial, and social goals and will be fully developed, independent human beings.

My only issue is that this only exists for a tiny subset of the population. I would be concerned if this was treated as “normal” or an “ideal” form of the life-story. If it’s working for you great.

I absolutely would not marry someone deep in debt. I’m managing my mom’s finances now, and it makes me feel like a parent. I would not want to feel that way about my spouse.

Oh, don’t worry. Most people will give student debt a pass as long as you’re being responsible with it. It isn’t like you signed up for every credit card you could get and racked them all up to the limit to buy a new Lamborghini.
