Seems the deadspin community really dislikes unwritten rules. It’s strage these same people are now celebrating MLB for suspending a player based on no written rules.

Yes you can consider it a blown call, although this almost never gets called so there really isn’t precadent. Looking at the rule:

The rule states he should have been ruled out, not that he should be suspended 2 games. If there is a clause in the rule book that indicates a 2 game suspension for violating the rule, please direct me to it.

I saw an elephant distinctly catch another elephants shit before it hit the ground with his trunk and eat it. Really opens your mind as a 7 year old.

No one is saying rules shouldn’t change. They are saying you shouldn’t enforce rules that don’t exist. For obvious reasons.

October 6th, 1993, it was a Wednesday. My mom walked into my bedroom and gingerly informed me that the great Michael Jordan had retired from basketball. I looked up at the 6’6” cardboard cutout I had of Jordan that was creepily standing near the end of my bed, almost watching over me, and bawled pleading with my mom

The problem is not that there is too much salt in our food supply, the problem is that there are too few good guys with salt mills walking the streets these to stop the salt’s destruction.

How can anyone resist making a smartass comment when someone orders a chese quesidilla without the cheese? I could NEVER work in the food service industry.

If MLB wants to change the rules to prevent this from happening, I’m all for that. But I cannot support this punishment based on injury punitative system when there have been so many similar slides throughout the year that haven’t been punished.

Not a single person who follows baseball would call him a bad teammate. This is the goddamn postseason and Harvey and the Mets are smarter than that.

Talk about insane, you think plunking a guy for retribution is insane, but then say it isOK to do it when a runner slides hard in to 2nd to breakup a double play, which happens all the fucking time.

The runner isn’t going to know if the fielder is going to miss the bag or not, stupid comment ripe with hindsight bias.

Does anyone at deadspin even watch or like baseball? Interference never gets called if your slide is close enough to touch the bag. Tejada has his back turned to Utley, which is not a good position to be in to avoid contact at 2B.

I found the hardest part about buying a TV was the horseshit manufacturer defined specs that are impossible to compare apples to apples.

So go back to just the AL and NL and eliminate divisions? The Mets and Dodgers each won their division by 7+ games so making them play a win or go home game doesn’t seem any more fair.

What do you suggest as a better system? Under the old scheme the 3rd best team in baseball wouldn’t have even made the playoffs this year, and I think that is problematic too. I agree both systems have issues but as a (non-pirates) fan, I am more happy with the current system as it means getting to watch more exciting

The headband, the hair, the foreground teammates complete indifference, this video is a good video. The AJ Burnett statue.

Mike Bell’s career just dropped below the Mendoza line from his line about Mendoza.

This article is good stuff.

You do have a good point. It does seem odd why the result of a fumble rolling out of bounds either at the 1 yard line vs in the end zone produces such drastically different outcomes.
