I’m scared too. We’re dealing with a segment of the country who sees politics as a zero-sum game of power, not a means by which to benefit society writ large. That’s been made painfully clear in this nomination process, if it hasn’t been made so on countless occasions this decade already.

The United States is on a path to Balkanize. Kurt Vonnegut knew how this would end. Its fate is the fate of all empires. The only question left to be seen is how violent the crumbling of America will be.

It gets worse. SCOTUS has a case on its docket in this term (Gramble v United States) that’ll decide the fate of the dual sovereignty doctrine. Basically, it allows the double prosecution of a person by more than one state for the same crime, where both states have jurisdiction for the prosecution. It’s an exception…

Except Supreme Court judges can be impeached, too.

What would be the politics of a Democratic push to impeach him for perjury? Would it come off as sour grapes? Would it be better to do it after the midterms?

I think this is the final straw for me. I haven’t had much hope for a while, but now I honestly believe that the American system is irrevocably broken and cannot be fixed through electoral politics.
