Yeah the folks that are nostalgic for some past era are the biggest window to how poorly history is actually taught. It ain’t great now, but I wouldn’t trade it to go live in any previous era.

2020 has taught me the problem with America is that it’s full of Americans. It’s going to be very difficult to fix.

It wasn’t until I was taking an advanced history class in college that I read any slave narratives. It took about 5 pages to shatter the remaining bits of Lost Cause narrative I had grown up with. I remember that the history class I took in my first semester of college focused on the treatment of Natives by Americans, especially post-Civil War. A bunch of my classmates were shocked by how brutal the treatment was.
