Despite recommendations from CDC health officials, the district has called mask-wearing a “personal choice” and said that social distancing “will not be possible to enforce” in “most cases.” While the school provided teachers with face shields and masks and encouraged staff and students to wear them, they are not

We actually do, which is a part that buggers me. With all out remote communities, extreme weather, and whatnot we actually have a fairly robust distance learning system.

Are you from the northeast? The South and west historically started sooner and ended sooner, because of heat in un-air conditioned schools. I grew up in PA and it was sometime during my education (I wanna say late 90s) that school went from after Labor Day to the week before. My sons school starts 8/25.

It’s amazing, the things that made sense in the Before Times. Big mergers, deals, the “retail landscape...”

The first step to getting to the other side is accepting the landscape will be very different AC. This virus has produced an uncertainty that will permanently change our way of life for years. Until enough of us decide to follow the guidelines that stop the spread, every step forward will result in steps backward as

I secretly love instant ramen, I do zhuzh it up a little less flavor packet, a splash of vinegar, maybe some chili flakes, but really  the noodles are so good.

Well, we’ll see in November, won’t we?  I wouldn’t trust any “I voted for him then but not now” voters to do anything but say one thing and do something completely different when no one’s looking over their shoulder.

There is no way I trust suburban white women to do the right thing this time around. They'll make the noises and then they'll quietly vote for Trump again.

If polls are to be believed, huh? How comforting.../s

You forgot the mommy blogs and YouTube channels.

. “He’s brought more division to this country than we’ve seen since the Civil Rights Act.”

Save your tears. We’re all going to be crying if, after these “silent majority” pearl-clutchers get done with their performative turnabouts and pull the lever for Trump anyway, because “he’s the safe choice.”

Trump made every aspect of his personality clear long before he was elected president. People who now regret voting for Trump are either stupid or liars.

Take Jane Scilovati, a Pennsylvania schoolteacher who recently told the New York Times that the way Trump handles issues of race is a “disgrace” and “deplorable,” and that she regrets her decision to vote for him in 2016. “He doesn’t have any compassion or empathy; he doesn’t reference historical facts correctly,” she

I don’t think that there is any such thing as “too early to drink” after November 2016.

Precisely. And also: if your lungs are already so bad that wearing a mask is “intolerable” to you, stay the fuck home while a deadly respiratory virus is running rampant through the country.

Also, pretty much no one is “physically unable to tolerate a mask”. With very, very, VERY few exceptions, those people are just being whiny assholes.

In SoCal, we had a similar situation (mask wearers and non mask wearers fighting in a Ralph’s) and the worker pepper sprayed them.

She believes the store is large enough—16,000 square feet—to allow for a few exceptions, like customers who claim they’re physically unable to tolerate a mask or workers who need a small break during or six- or eight-hour shifts as long as they keep their distance from other people.
