The comic has been that way, but I don’t think the character had their name changed until the New 52, so something closer to 10 years.  Still been a while either way, but it’s also a lesser known comic compared to say Superman, Batman, or Spider-Man.

Reading the interview, it came off as the usual “yeah, sure. You asked me this thing about a pop culture icon, so I’m just gonna go along with it and say what you want.”

Everybody knows that all the best Christmas films are released in the middle of summer (see also Gremlins and Batman Returns).

Yeah, I think there were a lot of things going on there. A bit of ego (she basically said “Mom and I are really good at this, you couldn’t handle it”) and a bit of dad protectiveness (“oh god, she already thinks she can handle it”) and about 30 other things. Pretty fascinating.

the empire in the OT was this archetypal thing. the audience knows what an empire is, knows what an emperor is. imperialism was this big controversial issue that touched millions of american lives in the 70s. it was A Thing.

These nerds will never be happy about anything. TFA was too much of a re-hash of ANH, TLJ literally destroyed their childhoods and blah blah blah. I didn’t love everything in TLJ, but it was more good than bad and seeing these dorks fill their diapers over it makes me like it even more.

That was the controversial development of TLJ that I loved the most: the understanding that the Jedi sorta sucked ass.

This is my problem with Abrams. He creates mysteries he doesn’t have an answer for, and it almost always ends up unsatisfying.
