Wealth on the order of billions of dollars is never generated individually; it is never private in that sense of the word. No individual has ever generated $50 billion of value by him or herself. It should be taxed extremely heavily. Wealth on the order of tens of thousands of dollars is more personal.

Good lord. There’s truly no excuse for the school’s action. It’s shameless and indefensible! Even before you take public money into account! Christ, I don’t even know where to begin. I would almost *want* to read someone’s attempt at a defense here, but I wouldn’t actually want that person to exist.

Every time you guys post “Let’s pick another topic!” it sounds like you’re desperately sick of sous-vide, and are hoping and praying that someone will let you write about anything, literally anything else. So, uh, black pudding.

Paris Jackson, possibly or possibly not the daughter of Michael Jackson, a man who did not conform to popular conceptions of race in America, is probably not the best person to hinge this whole case on.

Are you kidding? They’re extremely effective. They’ll get you in a very agreeable mood, although talking will be a bit more difficult. At higher plateaus, you can have some truly valuable revelations, and if nothing else, it’ll be an interesting experience.

The user you’re responding to isn’t making a moral argument, only a legal one.

There was plenty of good criticism of The Force Awakens that didn’t treat it like goo-goo-ga-ga baby shit for toddlers.

Chromebooks are the antithesis of the new Macbook Pros: They underpromise on technical ability, they’re cheap, and they’re just as much laptop as 80% of consumers need. I have a powerful desktop that I use a lot, but I’ve also had a Chromebook for a year and a half that’s perfect. Highly recommend!

They usually don’t light up at all. Sometimes, in the overhead slots, one of the three bulbs will light up and emit a buzzing noise.

I like LED bulbs in theory, but I have a really good reason for not buying them: They straight-up don’t work in my apartment. At all. I don’t know if my outlets are too old, or if it’s something in the wiring, but I have six LED bulbs all ready to go that I just can’t install in any outlet.

I went to the polls this morning, just after 8am, and two of the four ballot scanners were already broken down. I went to scan my ballot, fed it into the machine... and the screen blinked to a DOS-like screen briefly, then shut down. That’s three of the four available ballot scanners broken down, with a long and

This is a frighteningly common occurrence.

This is how I’ve always naturally interacted with people, from a young age, and it *absolutely* works. I’m not the guy you want to workshop your standup material for, because I’m very easy to make laugh. But you’ll definitely want me in your audience at your open mic!

Came here to nominate this one! It’s reminiscent of Shinola’s beautiful offerings at a much lower cost.

5E, duh. Though my group is currently playing Call of Cthulhu, and I’m hoping to get them on board for a GURPS campaign in the near-ish future.

How come none of these slick new chat apps are built on IRC? :/

I like the idea of sugru, but I’m not sure what I’d actually use it for. Anyone have some success stories they’re really proud of?

Yep, exactly this. Including the “for the most part.” Non-alcoholics can occasionally have too much to drink too, of course!

Right. So I don’t know what the “how it actually works” would be, like there’s some hidden, more-compelling game in there somewhere.
