It does seem that there are hoon laws for a reason. It's too bad that some punks are ruining it for the guys who take it to the track and just like to have a nice Commo.
I get the impression that there are a lot of people on here that grew up in southern Ohio or New Jersey and instantly get all bent because they're into small displacement imports and got nothing but flak (and asskickings probably) from the local F-body and Mustang contingents.
I've done 130 in one of mine, been up to 150 in a friend's, and have seen one top out at the limiter at 162. They are long, heavy jellybeans and are very friendly at those speeds.
A few years after I sold my '04, I found out that it had been totalled by the new owner. Such is the fate of affordable RWD performance vehicles.
I drive with TC off also, but do agree with the other dude that the 8" wheels are super skinny for this application, but probably add to the easy power oversteer action that the car is known for.

I am always dumbfounded by Australians that can't find something to be proud of in their domestic auto brands. I can't think of a better machine to hoon than a Commodore.
It's more that GTO owners enjoy the proud Holden heritage of their cars. Many have rebadged back to CV8 specs and replaced the fascia with the Holden one. It's not that much work at all, unless you consider any work to be too much work.
