It’s escapism. We watch these shows because they aren’t representative of reality. I don’t think most anyone watching GoT comes away thinking “durrrrr I want to go rape someone now or fuck my sibling and it’s totally cool durrrrr”.

This so much. I’m also pretty far left, but by god if I’m not a bone fide slave-owning good old boy in comparison to these people.

Agreed. Above all, I’m a cynic and a populist, and I’m okay with spirituality or religion even if I myself am an atheist. No one is as bad as they are made out to be - and evil rarely looks like what we assert that it will. Most people are good or at least rationalize that they are right. It’s the failure to empathize

Exactly the same age as me (well, within my stated range). As soon as I read your post I figured because this is exactly how I feel on here!

Exactly. Old enough to be president, but young enough to be deluded that I can maybe still relate to Jezebel.

It’s become a groupthink echo chamber, like Breitbart for the far left. I’m a godless pinko liberal myself, but extremism of any sort, left or right, is noxious and easily dismissed, betraying the very causes they purport to endorse.

Mid to late 30s?

Right.
It’s that Cheney Doctrine aspect to it also, where if something is 1% of something, then it’s 100% of it.
Nothing is a little bit of anything, everything - however slightly - transgressive to orthodoxy is absolutely and completely so.
As someone once said “some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being

Psst. I’ve been on Jezebel for years, and I guess I’m a little older than the chief demographic now, and I always considered myself pretty blue, pretty educated, pretty sensitive, and pretty empathetic, and with horrifying regularity, I learn that I am a Neanderthal woman who is upholding rape culture, objectifying

That seems unrealistic as better versions of that genre exist on the internet.

Here’s the problem - the audience is dumb (generally speaking). The audience isn’t smart enough, on average, to realize that this is fiction and is not reflective on what society is or should be. The audience is only just not dumb enough to think that these fiction shows are representative of how we should treat

If you do not like it, don’t watch it

I’ll go whole hog and say you’re a dingbat.

They’ve been doing them split-screen since the 3rd Nixon-Kennedy debate when it’s in this 2-lectern format (vs Town Hall format, where they just have the whole stage in one shot).

I also liked Jerry Springer’s tweet

I totally get you. I’m 25. I don’t follow the Marlins in the slightest. I didn’t cry for Ali or Mirra. But I’ve been a sack of tears most of the day. There’s something about seeing someone so young, so talented, and beloved by his team that’s done it for me.

I wish his family, friends, and the Marlins my condolences.

Their next tweet is pretty good. Someone in the Lawrence police department has a sense of humor:

And there’s the “we should have taken their (Iraq’s) oil to prevent the rise of ISIS/L.” Dude, that’s contrary to the Geneva Convention. It’s a war crime. The type that ends with lots of people either at The Hague or permanently unable to go anywhere that has extradition. And even Bed Bath and Beyond doesn’t have

Out of all the horrendous things that have happened in the sporting world this year, good on the Marlins for creating a quiet moment of beauty out of a storm of grief.

Man I’m 26 years old. I never get worked up about Athlete and Celebrity deaths. I only caught the end of the game and was crying through all the postgame coverage. Seeing Dee Gordon’s emotion really broke my heart. I applaud Giancarlo’s leadership through all of this. I could never do what he’s doing.
