It amazes me that people will go to a dealership without a clue of what they can afford or even want.  If I’m going in it’s to test drive a specific car that I know I can afford (or know I can’t but want to test for other reasons)

No you don’t have to, it just helps.  Still, for a mid-size CUV, they should really target some realistic EV-only range.  25 miles is stupid in this modern age.

It trades EV range for better cargo space, passenger space, and much higher hybrid MPG (55 for Prime, versus 43 for the volt). It’s also a good bit cheaper, and has a nicer interior.

I’m genuinely amazing that the RAV-4 PHEV didn’t come out sooner. Honestly my biggest surprises from this article are that Toyota’s only plug-in hybrid is the Prius Prime and that the Prius Prime only gets 20-25 miles of electric only range. That’s less than the original Volt.
