Ignoring the fact that government is the absolute worst form of charity, Detroit’s high taxes have nothing to do with generosity, and everything to do with corruption and mismanagement.

The turd that just won’t flush.
I was surprised by the lack of SUVs in this article. Even a mid-2000s Explorer tows 7000 pounds if properly equipped and can be had dirt cheap due to how many they sold in the era. I bought a loaded 04 Explorer V8 AWD with 107k miles for $4500 last year.
the GM 2500 with 6.0L and 4l80 transmission is a very hard machine to beat at it’s price point. You can get a suburban/yukon or silverado/sierra and either one will tow what you need. You just have to decide if you need a truck bed, or if you want the extra seating options.
He’d have to go with the 2500 one. The 1/2 ton Suburbans don’t have that high of tow ratings. But you’re right about longevity, my in-laws have 270,000 miles on their ‘03 with the original motor and trans (it’s starting to burn oil now though).
Came here to say this. I have a 2005 Suburban for the family truckster. It’s ugly, but it’s comfy and reliable, and I’ve towed trailers from Houston to Denver and back, and Houston to Charlotte and back, and it just keeps kicking.
For towing and article publishing go with the School bus. Chevy gas go with the 6.0l. The 5.3 is decent only when empty. Avoid the 6.0l Ford diesel. For Dodge Cummins, 2003+ had a better frame and better brakes. Duramax is fine as long as the water pump has been replaced. Some independent shops refuse to replace the…
Even the Silverados of that timeframe are pretty cheap. I picked up a 2000 with 4x4, extended cab, and the 5.3 for $2,500 back in Feb. It does have >200k miles, but it runs great and tows 6k lbs (that is the most I have done) with ease
A suburban is very hard to beat as a do all/tow vehicle.
I’ve got a 2006 Suburban with the 5.3, and I tow fairly often. My advice: get the 2500 with the 6.0. The 5.3 is fine for short trips (<4 hours) with the camper, or longer ones with the boat. But if you have distance to cover, or hills to negotiate, you’ll appreciate the extra grunt of the 6.0. My 5.3 ever dies I’m…
I did a motor swap. Its a Sport Club Cab 4x4 and had the 5.2 in it originally.
I’ve driven a Beetle for 30 years, was a passenger in it for 13 years before that. I watched The Dukes of Hazzard every Friday night as a kid and loved it. I live in the Deep South and drive a pickup. And I’m Black. Flags don’t trigger me. Statues don’t trigger me. The 2nd Amendment doesn’t trigger me (big fan).…
This is America now. People are looking for every single possible way to be something can be offensive. It is really exhausting.
This us monumentally fucking stupid. An asshole used a vehicle they made to murder somebody, the connection end there. People calling this tone deaf are the type that hear sounds in the dark in an empty room I’m assuming.
“Also, maybe you could denounce racism?”
Today’s society is full of fragile little flowers.
Twitter and hashtags are going to be the downfall of society. This is beyond idiotic.
People were triggered, safe spaces were sought.
Simple, they were far better than anyone was willing to give them credit for. I had a 98.5, and literally the only things ever replaced were fluids and filters, and a serpentine belt as per the book. Same brakes, tires, everything.
This has always been my dig. For such a “horrible” vehicle. Everyone that I know, as well as every “POS” chrysler product I’ve owned have been awesome vehicles that have always been rock solid reliable. Go look at the GM and Ford offerings of the time. Same old shitty hard plastic. It’s a truck after all, who…
