The only time this is practical is when you’re expecting large amounts of freezing rain. Makes scraping the windshield off much easier. Makes no difference in any other circumstance.

At least all the coverage I’ve seen has be purely offroad or purely highway driving, I haven’t really seen anything in between like a busy dirt road, say.

Yea, what DARPA and the military are doing with self driving vehicles is pretty awesome.
