I know this is an opinion piece, but I just have to say I disagree. I thought the story was the best in COD in a long time. The characters were funny and interesting, it had snappy dialogue and it was believable. I didn’t care they used the trope of making a robot very human. The story was perfectly fine among action Read more

While I don’t think the story was particularly amazing (SDF are a bit too one note evil), I still think this campaign was more endearing than the last few CoD campaigns I played. Even if the game isn’t quite long enough to fully flesh out the supporting cast, it did feel like there was just enough there Read more

That was a pretty lazy analysis...so the game made you dizzy? If you are going to reference the set pieces being lackluster compared to other COD set pieces, why not show with examples? Sad.

Reading this made me think of MW2, every set piece was so exhilarating and memorable, I miss those days.

The actual gameplay is better than The Witcher 3. It just doesn’t have the narrative depth or world-building.

I haven’t played it yet, but I’m happy Sony greenlit this and allowed Guerrilla games to experiment and make something different. They could have easily told them to shut up and go make another Killzone. We need more of this and Ubisoft specifically needs to learn from Horizon, they are in desperate need of overhaul.

I really need to pick this game up when it goes to the bargain bin. Everything I’ve read and everyone I’ve talked to about this seems to have a wet dream over this game.

I got the same Assassin’s Creed vibe, specifically AC3 (or how that game could have been.) As you say, the open world is much better designed for Horizon, but I think the real difference-maker is the combat. To me, AC’s combat never really went anywhere after Brotherhood. They always gave you new tools in each Read more

I think that what really stuck with me was how the game seemed to reinvent itself. First I was really into it, playing it everyday for hours, but somewhere in the middle of Aloy’s adventure I became a little tired of the mechanics (the repetitive hoarding of herbs and parts, for example). It was the sense of discovery Read more

I would like to remind everyone that this is not censorship and that Playtonic as a private business has the right to express itself as they see fit. If they do not wish to include voice work by a controversial figure in their video game that is well within their right. Jon’s free speech was not violated in any way

I’m finding the WiiU version to be fairly solid. There’s some definite framerate dropping in certain areas, but it’s nothing game-breaking; the game itself is imminently playable.

If you’re just looking for some Zelda goodness, go with the WiiU version; if you’re looking for something with a little more road ahead of Read more

I think Nioh is a lot more like Bloodborne than Souls (if we’re getting specific, because of course all three are extremely similar) but I actually think it’s much faster. This sets it apart, but it negatively impacts the world design, enemy design and story, which I think you sort of blur past much more quickly than Read more

I loved the Alpha and went on to pre-order Nioh right after that. I was not disappointed.

Yes, the Diablo-style loot gets overwhelming fast, but the game offers all the tools you need to make sense of it all once you figure it out. Maybe I missed something at the start, but I only found time to bother getting to know Read more

I forgot to mention in my OP: excellent write-up! It was a pleasure to read, and you supported your assertions exceptionally well. Even in the moments where I disagreed with your personal take on the game, I found myself thinking, “Still, that’s a damned good argument.”

Solid work.

Good read, and I couldn’t agree more on most of that.

It’s an excellent game and I’m having a blast with it, but it definitely pales in comparison to an actual Souls title... The combat is outstanding, but enemy attack variation is virtually non-existent, and outside of the extremely rare circumstances where I get Read more
