Personally I like any type of combat that's well-executed. Turn-based combat is great for having time to think about complicated maneuvers, but my favorite JRPG battle system is a tie between Final Fantasy XII and XIII-2. XII was close-ish to turn-based, at least in terms of magic, and I loved the strategy involved
