The 1:1 power ratio is talking about 1 hp per kilogram, as reported in racecar-engineering article linked below.

Agreed. Well written Kyree
2nd pic.... so that’s how they got that race car on top of the Laddie, makes sense. Super sketchy looking, but makes sense.
Matra!
David, pretty much everything with your Accord has been the result of previous owner deferred maintenance or some abuse (5th gear going out), so I’m curious...
This so true & exactly why it’s important to like what you drive especially if its a shitbox.
Given the time period, if they were after increased power with lower emissions, what’s weird is why experiment with water cooling at all? Why not call up some family and/or friends at Porsche?
yep “VW.Diesel”, same reason Porsche is only fielding two cars this year too (cost) both the Audi team and the Porsche team were limited to two cars each by VW leadership
Oh I agree Porsche competing an winning last year is definitely good for the race, for fans & I’m sure the FIA loves having some diversity in who wins.
ah you’re right. Article written in the 80's, w/in which guy talks about the rule dating back to 1966
This gif is excellent. I love Porsche and they have an amazing record at Le Mans. Which reminded me...warning random speculation ahead....
correction “offyatindy” states below that there was a turbo cummings diesel engined race car at Indy in 1952, still 32 years from starting to use in airplanes to starting to use in automobiles is a hell of a time gap.
The quoted article (within the post) seems to be referring to turbos being “new” in the mid 1960's.
Thanks for posting Torch. These guys have been working on this for the past 12 years & have running prototype engines (as indicated in the post) + they have a DARPA contract.
I’m looking forward to when LiquidPiston engines “inside out rotories” are commercially available!
“For whatever reason...”
You mean years and years of relentless marketing?
:)
I really rather like Audis (I’d like it even more if they required as little attention as a Lexus...).
Many people get all rosy glasses thinking “cars used to be so much different in design” b/c their memories are pulling from decades and decades of different designs.
So at at least someone else (besides Torch) thought of this too
haha - I love the car on the other side, sees dipshit stall in middle of puddle & then wisely back up and turn around
