The way I figure it, the show needed to demonstrate the lethality of being in the Sarlacc, but weren’t going to festoon the creatures innards with aliens in various state of decomposition.

Gray is quickly turning into the Neelix of Discovery. Every time he opens his mouth its cringe time. The writers of course don’t do this pointless character any favors, but Gray could be gone tomorrow and there would be no negative impact whatsoever.

The big thing is that it’s never revealed why the tracksuits wanted it. They specifically hit the auction for the watch.

In a similar vein, while Hawkeye kind of forgot about it being a major plot point, a lot of the action this season revolved around a mysterious watch that was recovered from the ruins of the Avengers compound.
