It was their mother’s job. Too many mom’s used to baby their sons. In my dad’s family the girls actually waited on their brothers. Hopefully that has changed.

Yes my grandfather was from Pittsburgh, and he’d tell us. “the KKK ran Brentwood,” the borough they lived in. They were Catholics and, as such, undesirables. My mom had to walk outside Brentwood to attend a Catholic school. The KKK was active and powerful all over the country.
How true. I’ve always remembered an an art installation done by a bunch of women “redecorating” a house that included a menstruation bathroom. Red tinted water in the toilet, wastebasket overflowing with used pads and tampons, everything out there that we’re always desperately trying to hide.
You sound awfully dogmatic. I’m not so sure what is “absolutely true.” I suspect a lot of your opinion is bogus and aesthetic judgement rather than health evidence.
The Girl Scouts were founded by some pretty progressive, first wave feminists who believed girls should have opportunities for fun and learning and service like those offered to the boys. Boy Scouts were founded by establishment, military types who were worried about the quality of young men being recruited for their…
I would worry that voting by mail seems even more vulnerable to abuse by controlling family members than allowing selfies. But I guess if you’re in that kind of relationship you have worse problems than lack of a vote.
Yes. Some get into being the “cool girl” in the wimmen-hatin’ boys’ club. It makes them feel special.
The Catholic church is not defined by the Bible. It has Canon Law, papal writs, teachings, traditions, etc, that have just as much weight as scripture, and it is mostly these that forbid women priests, abortion, birth control, etc. And they can be challenged and changed.
Except that she’s probably calling her vulva her vagina.
When I was starting out in architecture a lot of the men wore bow ties so as not to drag the tie across a drawing board. That and the round Corbusier glasses were a common affectation among the profession. Today, with computer drafting there’s no excuse.
Or Trey.
Right, did she grow up in the dark ages? I’m in my sixties, and I can testify that 40 years ago we were hopping into bed without all these rules. Now, some of our mothers told us the milk story, but as I said that was 40 - 50 years ago.
I’m disgusted with their husbands. They have degrees and (had) jobs, but instead choose to grift for a living.
I read a study that said that working class and poor families tend to settle near the mom’s mother, because those bonds are strongest. Upper class families settle near the husband’s father, to be near the money. Middle class families scatter to follow the jobs.
Don’t worry, you can surmount the problems and be close to your own children. My grandmother was a self-centered alchoholic and pretty uninvolved in our lives. Mine was a wonderful mother in spite of that and helped raise most of her grandchildren.
Lucky. In her later years, people will assume she’s younger than she is.
Please, just take these religious fanatics off my TV.
I watching a PBS program on the brain and one surprising thing was in an experiment asking people to read other peoples emotions from their facial expression. People who had been treated with botox were less able to read others’ expressions. Apparently we mirror other’s expressions in order to read them. Botox…
Maybe they should learn to spell it, though.
I read as much Heyer as I could find growing up in the 60’s, scouring old city libraries. Collecting my own copies in the 80’s, I was delighted to visit bookstores in London to complete my collection, even to the most obscure.
