It’s amazing to go back and watch 2000's-era HBO shows and see how self-contained they were. Nowadays every episode of every show has to end with a ‘holy shit’ moment to hook you into the next episode.  So many HBO shows would end episodes with a quiet, reflective moment right before the credits rolled.

Honestly I think this applies to every show. Watching Poker Face and even Mrs. Davis reminded me how much better a truly episodic approach is than the Netflix approach of an 8 hour plot cut into hour-long chunks.

The moment Yennifer transformed from an ‘ugly’ girl into the goofiest-looking pouty pornstar in a plotline that felt right off a regressive 80s sex comedy I gave up expecting much of the show and remained baffled at what people were seeing in it. Likely an unpopular opinion here, especially for actual The Witcher fans, but the show probably would have worked better as more of a “monster of the week” serial in the vein of The X-Files. Sure, there was an overarching story there, but it served as connective world building, not the muddily presented driver.
